The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) Strategic & Military Space Division is seeking to fill multiple positions for Systems Engineers with a background in Architecture Engineering, Requirements Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, orbital warfare and national security space systems to serve as an embedded subject matter experts (SME) in the U.S. Space Force PEO-Operational Test & Training Infrastructure (OTTI). The successful applicant(s) will be responsible for assisting the OTTI Integrated Program Office to develop national level capabilities to test the USA’s next generation of space capabilities, and develop tactics, techniques, and procedures for the Service’s weapons systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understands the government’s needs and issues, as an embedded SME
  • Decomposes operational warfare Mission-Essential Tasks and training needs into testing requirements
  • Coordinates activities and execution with other parts of the OTTI enterprise, such as Infrastructure, Engineering, or Business Operations
  • Assembles and directs resources toward execution of the organization’s mission
  • Identifies, tracks, and mitigates risks
  • Trades issues of scope, approach, cost, and schedule
  • Evaluates program information and makes recommendations to the Government Lead
  • Other duties as assigned by the Government Lead
Required Qualifications - All Positions:
  • BS degree in a related technical field (e.g., aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering with coursework in space system engineering)
  • At least five years of system engineering experience directly supporting operational space systems
  • Familiarity with spacecraft requirements and subsystems design, development, and testing
  • Understanding of risks and risk mitigations for spaceflight systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to present complex technical concepts clearly and succinctly to customers
  • Must have a US government TOP SECRET/SCI clearance and be eligible for Special Accesses
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must be able to travel
Preferred Qualifications – All Positions:
  • Advanced degree in aerospace, systems, electrical, or optical engineering
  • Space Force, NRO, or IC space acquisition experience
  • Experience with SAP or CAP architectures
  • Experience in Exercises and Wargames from tactical through Tier-1 level
  • Management and systems engineering experience in space hardware development projects
ORBITAL SYSTEMS ENGINEER  x2 Positions
Qualifications:
  • Understanding of the space environment and orbital mechanics
  • Familiarity with orbit determination methods to include tracking and predicting the orbits using mathematical models and algorithms
  • Familiarity with space surveillance sensors, networks, and observation data, including capabilities and limitations
  • Familiarity with HWIL M&S architectures used in test and training for DoD systems
  • Familiarity with ground station satellite tracking antennas and systems to include knowledge of equipment to include up and down converters, power amplifiers, receivers, and other antenna element
  • Experience operating, or leading units that operate, spacecraft conducting RPO
  • Familiarity with satellite sim software such as STK, Freeflyer, MVS, or Trace
  • Familiarity with broad range of orbital analyst techniques and applying new analytical developments/ methodologies/TTPs.
  • Familiarity with satellite anomaly resolution and on-orbit operations
  • Familiarity with satellite crew training and incorporating lessons learned into training curriculums
ARCHITECTURE ENGINEER  x1 Position
Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with large-scale missions systems, and systems engineering and integration activities
  • Experience performing systems engineering analysis and developing systems engineering products for DoD or government system
  • Experience with practical MBSE for the development of technical specifications, interface control documents, and system architecture, including using digital engineering tools, such as Cameo or MagicDraw, SparxEA, or IBM rhapsody
  • Knowledge of Agile Methodologies
  • Knowledge of SysML, UAF, and DoDAF
  • Preferred: OMG Certified Systems Model Professional (OCSMP), Certification INCOSE SE Certification 
REQUIREMENTS ENGINEER  x1 Position
Qualifications:
  • Ability to analyze user needs to determine functional requirements for a wide variety of IT infrastructure and services projects
  • Relevant experience in requirements engineering and systems engineering or project management
  • Proficiency with reference architecture frameworks and tools such as DoDAF, TOGAF, ArchiMate, UML, SysML, or DOORS
  • Experience coordinating, scheduling, and leading internal and external technical exchange meetings to clarify project requirements and resolve issues
  • Experience defining, developing, and documenting operational support concepts leading to development and implementation of requirements, specifications, and design plans
  • Experience with analysis of functional, system, and non-functional requirements, data flows, and dependencies
  • Understanding of analysis of design and implementation alternatives, tradeoffs, and recommendations
ENTERPRISE IT ARCHITECT  x1 Position
Qualifications:
  • Experience providing technical advice to clients, recommending functional changes, and identifying areas for further investigation
  • Experience with customer requirements gathering and understanding of enterprise IT infrastructure 
  • Broad experience across the architecture domains of business, applications, data, and technology
  • Experience developing Enterprise Architecture Baseline to include discovering and capturing the “as-is” state of the IT enterprise, and the vision of the “to be” state of the IT enterprise
  • Experience in developing solutions utilizing various technology stacks and methodologies
  • Experience in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, including knowledge of cloud architecture, services, and deployment models
  • Understanding of security principles, data protection, and compliance requirements to design secure and compliant solutions
Salary Range:
  • $120,000-$220,000
    • Salary commensurate upon highest education level and years of directly related experience
