Join the Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) team, where you'll contribute to groundbreaking innovations! We are seeking applicants for an entry-level Technician to join our Civil & Commercial Space Division.
The Civil & Commercial Space Division is at the forefront of scientific research and space exploration. Key Responsibilities:
- Under close supervision, performs routine technical tasks supporting development engineering activities, including setup, operation, maintenance, modification, circuit testing, calibration, and troubleshooting of mechanical, electronic, or optical systems, as well as experimental or prototype models and specialized test equipment
- Works from schematics, logic diagrams, mechanical and cabling diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts, and defined plans
- Utilizes applications that may include analog, digital, and/or video type circuits, and logic systems
- Performs prototyping, modeling, fabrication, and building of interconnecting cabling and wiring
- May provide support for field integration, testing, and launching operations
- Interfaces with other personnel and departments as necessary
- May support assembly of prototype ground and flight hardware
- Designs, fabricates, and installs multi-layer insulation blankets for instruments and hardware
- Designs, fabricates, and installs thermal coatings to hardware
Required Qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
- Must have a high school diploma and 0-5 years of relevant experience, or relevant certification and 0-4 years of relevant experience, or an AS and 0-3 years of relevant experience
- Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, drawings, and diagrams
- Knowledge of MS Office
- Ability to assemble prototype, ground, and flight hardware
- Ability to obtain NASA certification for soldering and cable/crimp/harness assembly
- Ability to work effectively individually and within a team environment
- Demonstrated strong attention to detail
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Occasional support during evening and weekend shifts required when certain testing requires it
- Ability to use CAD software to develop patterns
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to perform physical activities that require a considerable use of arms, legs, and moving the entire body, such as climbing, lifting (approximately 50 lbs.), balancing, walking, stopping, and handling of materials
- Must be able to spend substantial time standing
- Ability to utilize visual acuity or reasonable accommodations and finger dexterity to work with small parts
- Ability to utilize hearing or reasonable accommodations to diagnose audible machine issues (e.g., pitch change, valve closure, end mil break, etc.)
*Salary Range
- $38,500 - $60,800
- Salary commensurate based on education and experience
