The Opportunity

The SDL Strategic Military Space Division is seeking an experienced Senior Cloud Engineer to support the development, integration, and sustainment of cloud-enabled satellite ground system solutions.

This role is ideal for a technically strong engineer who thrives in hands-on implementation and enjoys translating cloud architecture designs into reliable, secure, and scalable operational systems. You will work closely with cloud architects, systems engineers, and program teams to deploy, integrate, test, and operate mission-critical cloud and information system capabilities.

You will collaborate with a broad set of stakeholders—including customer Program Offices, internal engineering divisions, FFRDCs/UARCs, SETA personnel, and industry partners—to ensure cloud solutions meet operational, security, and performance requirements across the system lifecycle.

The Strategic & Military Space Division delivers advanced satellite and sensor systems that support the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community. This is a non-remote position located in Logan, Utah.

What You’ll Do
  • Implement, configure, and support secure cloud infrastructure for satellite ground systems
  • Deploy and integrate mission data services and processing pipelines
  • Deploy, configure, and secure containerized workloads using AWS EKSDevelop, maintain, and automate Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using modern cloud tooling
  • Configure and support cloud networking, connectivity, and system integrations
  • Assist with security hardening, compliance implementation, and accreditation activities
  • Deploy, configure, and support containerized workloads and platform services
  • Monitor system performance, reliability, and resource utilization; support optimization efforts
  • Support testing, validation, and system integration activities across development and operations
  • Provide operations, sustainment, and lifecycle support for cloud-enabled systems
  • Produce clear technical documentation and contribute to design reviews and technical discussions
  • Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and customers to deliver mission-ready solutions

Required Qualifications
  • U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of experience, master’s with 8+ years, or PhD with 4+ years (engineering or science discipline)
  • Hands-on experience with cloud technologies such as VPC, EC2, S3, EBS, EKS, Lambda, and RDS (or equivalent services)
  • Experience deploying cloud infrastructure using AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, Boto, or Azure Resource Manager
  • Experience migrating and integrating on-premises infrastructure with cloud-based environments
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, load balancing, firewalls)
  • Familiarity with cloud performance monitoring tools and operational best practices
  • AWS Solutions Architect – Associate certification required (Professional preferred); equivalent Azure certifications accepted
  • Ability to support technical analysis, prepare documentation, and contribute to briefings and reports
  • Proficiency with CI/CD and configuration management toolsDemonstrated ability to manage priorities, support multiple efforts, and deliver reliable technical solutions
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail with a proactive, team-oriented mindset

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in Agile or iterative development environments
  • Experience supporting national security, Air Force, or space-domain ground systems
  • Familiarity with Command, Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC)
  • Knowledge of satellite communications protocols and standards
  • Experience applying cybersecurity best practices in secure or mission-critical environments
  • Familiarity with satellite ground station equipment, including antennas and RF systems
  • Experience integrating cloud platforms with external systems or legacy ground infrastructure

*Salary Range
  • $116,000 - $138,000
    • Salary commensurate based on education and relevant experience
