Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) Strategic Military Space Division is seeking an experienced Junior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to support the day-to-day administration, reliability, and security of cloud computing environments supporting mission-critical systems. This role focuses on operational excellence, account and resource management, and system availability and compliance, while working closely with engineering, security, and program teams to ensure stable and efficient cloud operations. The selected candidate will collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders—including customer program offices, internal engineering division, FFRDCs/UARCs, SETA personnel, and industry partners—to design, deploy, integrate, and sustain secure, scalable cloud-based information systems.
The Strategic & Military Space Division delivers advanced satellite and sensor systems that support the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community. Key Responsibilities:

  • Designs and develops software test automation programs
  • Identifies and analyzes test results and draws conclusions about software effectiveness
  • Identifies and resolves software testing problems
  • Performs system and performance analysis
  • Designs test procedures, including opportunities for re-usability
  • Develops utility programs and test tools
  • Interfaces with program team members, Software Engineers, Quality Assurance, and Software Testers/Students as needed
  • Updates test documentation when discrepancies are found
  • Provides inputs for documentation of new or existing programs
  • Writes clean, consistent, and well-documented code
  • Implements, tests, and maintains code for internal and external customers
  • Ensures that code meets end-user requirements
  • Collaborates with Developers to verify new development projects integrate with existing applications and systems
  • Provides operational support for installations, as required

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 0-5 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of common programming languages
  • Familiarity with software configuration management tools and processes
  • Familiarity with software testing tools
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
  • Understanding of software test methodologies (unit, integration, system, and acceptance testing)
  • Introductory knowledge of common software development processes (revision control, peer reviews, documentation standards)
  • Ability to document test artifacts, operations, and functions
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Unix/Linux
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to analyze basic computer software issues and how they relate to the test article
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment
  • Experience implementing software test in a CI/CD software development environment
  • Active Top Secret (TS) security clearance

*Salary Range
  • $69,500 - $93,500
    • Salary commensurate based on education and experience
